Our Golden Boy, co-owned between Meg and Diane and Paul Stilgoe, his breeders.
I am sure we didn't intend to have another puppy, and certainly not in the covid epidemic and yet here's Roo. It was just too good an opportunity to miss.
The first year was hard having less chance to socialise and very few shows around either but he passed his puppy foundation and went to a gundog trainer... well it gave him a good laugh!
Roo did not go to his first show until he was 1 and still nearly hit the points for his Junior Warrant despite there being few shows in the Midlands. Boy did he make up for that though when he attended the back to back Championship show of The Pointer Club and National Dog show in October 2021 at just 18 months old, he won his first CHALLENGE CERTIFICATE under respected judge Aidine Howes at the Pointer Club and won his Junior class in the sister show.
He has had some spectacular results at Championship shows, but most notable are his tally of green bordered cards, Gaining his crown at Richmond in 2024.

RICHMOND DOG SHOW 2024 - Mrs Diane Stewart-Ritchie - CHALLENGE CERTIFICATE & BEST OF BREED and under Tom Mather, a Group shortlist down to the final 8 from 1071 gundogs entered
At open shows he has won and placed in many groups, winning RBIS at Stoke on Trent Gundog 2024 (Mrs E Bradley), RBIS The Southern Pointer Club 2024 (Mr D Todd) and best Reserve Best of Breed in show at Bridgwater in 2024 (Blake Crocker).
In January 2025, Roo gained his final points (50 in total) to qualify for his Show Certificate of Excellence. We didn't know this until July 2025 though as I was underclaiming for one of the shows! However, despite what had seemed a bit of an uphill battle to gain the last point in the early part of the year, once the award was confirmed, he then quickly added another 5 points over the subsequent 2 shows!
Our sincere thanks to all of the judges who have thought so highly of our Roo to give us successes we could have never expected.
When we started showing, just to get places in a class was huge. To have 5 of our dogs (from 6 we showed) who have gained their Stud Book numbers (qualifying them for Crufts for life, and now for Roo gaining his title SHOW CHAMPION at Richmond in 2024, is beyond expectation and we are very proud of our little team. Thank you for making it possible!
Roo was not the easiest to train to start with, far too sociable for his own good, and in a time when we were supposed to keep distant from others during covid, he was the one who darted off to say hello to everyone. However training paid off and his recall is probably the best of the pointers here. He does love a good roll in anything disgusting though and is frequently orange (or green) in other places than he should be. Even staying clean for the course of show day can be a challenge! If tickets were given for getting filthy, he would be a champion many times over even if not on Louie's scale.
You can't be angry with Roo... no seriously, you can't because if you tell him off, he sits on your head. He has no spatial awareness and you will take notice of him whether you want to or not. He really is a character.
No matter what the future brings, Roo will always be our FIRST CHAMPION
